5-technique

The 5-technique sets up on the offensive tackle's outside shoulder. In a 3-4 front it's a two-gap job: control the tackle, hold the B and C gaps, and set a hard edge against the run before you ever think about rushing. It's a long, strong player's position — think heavy hands, anchor, and discipline over flash. In even fronts the 5-tech becomes more of an edge-setter and rusher, but the job description starts the same way every time: don't get moved.
